Jewel's Dissertation Defense Summary:
Utilizing my experience of having worked in both disciplines of Indigenous Data Sovereignty (IDSov) and archives, I address the disconnect between Indigenous Peoples and their data as well as the siloing of the two disciplines. The disconnect between Indigenous Peoples and their data often manifests in a lack of rights within non-Indigenous information institutions such as archives, libraries, museums, and cultural centers. I draw on current literature, projects, survey analysis, policy coding, and document analysis to show the power of IDSov and archives working in relationship.
