When

9 – 10 a.m., April 9, 2025

The representation of warriorhood in Maori and American Indian fiction and film is evolving and changing, suggesting that perhaps these roles must be redefined in response to new cultural, social, and political landscapes. Join Michelle Boyer on April 9th, 2025, at Harvill 332A to learn more about how Indigenous authors and filmmakers are challenging colonial stereotypes and reconstructing warrior identities beyond physical violence and military service while suggesting that perhaps these roles should be occupied by women and children in contemporary landscapes. Once Were Warriors, Whale Rider, People of the Whale, The Marrow Thieves, Warrior Girl Unearthed, and others will be discussed.
