Through a two-part approach, this study first offers a historical, legal, and political analysis of how these foreign governing models have undermined self-determination. The second part addresses communal barriers, acknowledging historical trauma as an active challenge to overcome, and learning best practices. Rooted in Indigenous methodologies and committed to reciprocal research, this work provides a practical roadmap for reclaiming traditional governance and advancing sovereignty.
