Amy Fatzinger

Amy S. Fatzinger, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of American Indian Studies and an affiliate faculty member in the Department of English at the University of Arizona. She currently serves as Interim Head of the Department of American Indian Studies.

Dr. Fatzinger primarily teaches courses on Indigenous cinema and literature, including American Indians in Film, Indigenous Children’s Literature, and Mixed Media storytelling, a course that focuses on Indigenous adaptations. Her research similarly centers on Indigenous adaptations and representations of Indigenous people in literature and film, and she has published in Adaptation; Western American Literature; Mosaic: A Journal for the Interdisciplinary Study of Literature; Dialogue: The International Journal of Popular Culture and Pedagogy; Canadian Literature; Twentieth Century Literary Criticism and The Atlantic. Her publications include studies on works by Laura Ingalls Wilder, Ken Kesey, and James Welch. Dr. Fatzinger is the first faculty member in the department to hold a doctorate degree in American Indian Studies.
