Language Revitalization

I am a professor in the Department of Linguistics, and also have appointments in the Cognitive Science Program and the Department of East Asian Studies. My research is in the areas of phonetics, experimental phonology, and psycholinguistics, focusing mostly on reduced, spontaneous speech. I direct the Douglass Phonetics Lab. I also work on language revitalization for the dormant Native American language Mutsun (Costanoan, formerly spoken in coastal California). My language interests are Japanese, Dutch, and Mutsun. See my website for more information.
