The Social Context of Aboriginal Peoples and Forest Land Issues

...Aboriginal People in British Colombia in particular, and in Canada in general, have been struggling over the past several decades to gain control of their forest lands. Blockades against logging have been only part of a larger strategy to assert Aboriginal rights and establish Aboriginal title. But Aboriginals have also been concerned about forestry itself, and their inability to influence how the land is managed, as well as the fact that they have generally not benefited from resource extraction.
